Bomber Command: Failed to Return promotional video


On 30 January 1942 Sergeant Joseph Fusniak, the rear gunner in an all Polish crew of six, sat in his turret, gazing out as the weather deteriorated, cloud thickened and snow rushed past. Joseph would be the only survivor when the No. 18 Operational Training Unit Wellington bomber flew straight into the side of a hill. No. 9 Squadron, Lancaster rear gunner, Jack Linaker, describes a tragic crash on the night of 21 December 1944. Jack's full story 'Extraordinary Fortune' appears in Fighting High - World War Two - Air Battle Europe, Volume 2.

RAF Bomber Command air gunner Harry Irons DFC describes his first view of a bombing raid, thousands of feet in the air, in the mid-upper turret of his 9 Squadron Lancaster - Dusseldorf, 10 September 1942.
